Directed by Academy Award®-winner Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire), Frankenstein features Benedict Cumberbatch (Hamlet, BBC’s Sherlock) and Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary, Trainspotting) alternating between the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his creation. Open Lab Performance

What: An informal performance and presentation of new work created during the 4-day Mini Convergence. Artists hailing from the Shenandoah Valley and representing creative genres from visual artists to puppeteers, dancers to theatre artists will gather for four days at Silver Line Theatre Exchange to create new interdisciplinary work, share workshops, and add skills to their creative toolboxes. The Open Lab Performance will showcase projects as “works in progress” from three artists: Robert Negron, Hsini Des, and Ethan Eldred.

This event’s content is recommended for audience members 13+ as some material may have mature content. The audience is encouraged to meet the artists, ask questions, and learn what comes next in their creative process at the conclusion of the Open Lab.

About Indy Convergence

Indy Convergence (IC) is an arts and culture organization based in Indianapolis, IN that works collaboratively with professional artists and residents in our community to identify, examine, and address opportunities through arts-based programming and partnerships. IC began in 2008 as a collaboration between three professional artists working in different fields who wanted to bridge the gap between artistic genres and created a space where artists could exchange ideas, genre-specific language, and teaching skills. IC evolved into an arts and community-based nonprofit serving the Near Westside neighborhoods of Indianapolis, one of the most diverse communities in Indianapolis in 2016. New to the community, we engaged in a “Year of Listening” when the organization first moved into its Near Westside home. During this year, the core staff attended over 100 community meetings to understand the community’s varied historical and current aspirations, challenges, and perspectives. Calling on our history, earned community relationships, and expertise in the arts, IC cultivates our community’s local talent, sharing the wealth of creativity vested in the Near West while facilitating residency programs that infuse Indianapolis and other creative spaces with new creative and culturally dynamic perspectives.

Synopsis:  The inspiring lives of Thomas Jefferson and John and Abigail Adams are woven together in a moving story. Based on the letters they wrote, the play spans their 50 years of close but turbulent friendship from 1776 up to the deaths of Jefferson and John Adams who both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 

Why this play? With 2026 being the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, our country's history is being celebrated everywhere. Audiences will really enjoy this look at the first fifty years of US history through the lens of the friendship between Jefferson and Adams. The play has been performed at Monticello, John Adams' house in Quincy, MA, the Kimball Theater in Colonial Williamsburg, Poplar Forest, and other theaters throughout the country. 

What the audience can expect: Jefferson & Adams is being presented as a one-night-only staged reading. The minimal use of sets and costumes allows the words of these three remarkable people to stand out, giving us a deeper understanding of the minds and hearts of some of the people who helped form our country.

Local Exchange is how we open our blackbox to Staunton's broader creative and civic community. These events are organized and hosted by local artists, educators, advocates, and neighbors — each one a reflection of what this community cares about.
